Bahia Grass

Bahia grass is a warm season southern grass, Bahia grass is resistant to drought, disease and most insect attacks. Bahia grass can survive in a variety of soils from sand, sandy to clay and other infertile, dry soils. Bahia grass requires some maintenance to keep looking good in residential and commercial landscapes. Without fertilizer Bahia grass will thin out over time. Bahia grass also has a low tolerance to many weed control herbicides. Bahia grass is used extensively in lawns along coastal areas in Florida. Bahia grass has a vigorous growing habit and requires frequent mowing during hot weather. Bahia grass has a coarse blade and is not suitable for soils with high a pH levels.

Bahia grass is drought resistant turf. It does well in lawns and along highways, and its best used in sunny areas in warm humid regions. The Bahia grass roots can extend up to 8' deep once esablished. This is an important factor in erosion control.

Bahia Grass For Livestock

Bahia grass is a good solution for livestock pastures and grazing areas. The protein content of Bahia ranges from 3 to 8 percent in hay depending on time of production. Quality Bahia grass can also provide a sustainable food source for live-stock. Bahia grass also provides a good supplemental source of roughage.
